After Party Sale purchases

This post is fairly overdue, considering the sale is over! However, I kept it pretty simple this winter.

I wasn’t trying to completely break the bank, and truth-be-told I wasn’t that impressed with a lot of the items during the winter APS sale.

A few necessities, some fun items, and some new styles are what I purchased during this sale. Again, I wasn’t crazy about any of the prints and my size was sold out in a few items I had my eye on. I wasn’t that sad about it though, as I feel like all my energy usually goes into the summer APS sale.

Here are my purchases from the winter After Party Sale this week:

Karlie Wrap Romper

I had never actually tried on one of these rompers before, but I liked the look of the style. It does fit interestingly… you have to tie it very tight around the waist to make sure the wrap goes across your chest appropriately. It is cute and comfortable, although I may size up to a small next time.

Large Agenda 2018-2019

I bought a different agenda last year from Lilly, it ran weekly instead of daily and was easier to carry around. I do love their planners, and I swear they were the secret to my academic success. Now I just like to have them to feel organized!

Inflatable Drink Holder Set

These were just too cute to pass up for $5! I can’t wait to use them in Florida in February and March and again this summer on the Vineyard!

Collette Seersucker Skort

Truthfully, I thought that the cute lobster on the side was embroidered. It is somewhat, but mostly sequins which is not exactly my style. It’s still very cute though and I can wear it to spruce up a white shirt!

That’s all for this sale — let me know if you got anything good!

Fuzzy pullover from Marshall’s

This past weekend while visiting my boyfriend in New Jersey, we stopped into Marshall’s. I told myself I didn’t need anything and I wasn’t going to buy anything, as we were just trying to kill some time before a movie.

Of course that’s never how it goes when you love to shop and you’re at Marshall’s. I walked in and browsed some shoes, before I was quickly drawn to a rack full of outwear.

I found this fuzzy, soft pullover that looked like a duplicate of other sherpas I have seen posted by various bloggers over the years! It was a lot colder over the weekend and I didn’t really bring layers, so I decided to purchase this pullover for $25, which I felt was still a good deal.

I later looked up the sherpa to see how much a non-duplicate would be to make myself feel better. I saw Amy from I Believe In Pink posted a similar one on her Liketoknow.it page, so I checked it out. She had the SAME brand as the one I just purchased linked from Nordstrom for $78!!!

I’m so happy I ended up buying the pullover and excited that it’s finally cold enough to wear something so cozy!

Cheers,

Maddy

After Party Sale purchases & thoughts

8.14.14_hp1

This post is a bit late as the APS started almost a week ago now, but I figured that I should share what I purchased, as well as some of my thoughts about the sale this year.

I wasn’t really looking for anything specific this year, and I felt like I didn’t really have any big ideas about what was going to be in the sale. I also forgot to set my alarm for 8am last Monday, so after I woke up, it took me awhile to remember the sale had went live.

What I bought:

MARLOWE BOATNECK T-SHIRT DRESS in Cosmic Coral Cracked Up

20099_cosmiccoralcrackedupengineereddress-sf

I have a very similar style dress in a different print from Lilly, and I wear it to work, to family events, as well as more casual dinners. I love the versatility, and this lobster print was too cute to pass up for $49!

JESSE ROMPER in Raz Berry Catty Shack

I was hoping that the Jesse Romper in Stuffed Shells would be in the sale, but I didn’t see it anywhere. I decided on getting the same romper in this print, which I thought was fun, and didn’t really remember seeing before. I felt this was a bit of a splurge at $69, although I love the little white detailing on the top and the skirt!

JULIETTE CARDIGAN in True Navy

29092_truenavy-sf

Every year I debate investing in a Lilly cardigan, as they always pair so well with other Lilly products. I wasn’t really interested in any other pieces in the sale, and I wasn’t trying to spend TOO much, so I decided to get this cardigan for $59.

UPF 50+ SKIPPER POPOVER in Light Blue

I ended up going back to Martha’s Vineyard during the sale, which I didn’t anticipate before. I had been eyeing the popovers, which are another Lilly item I have always wanted, but never purchased! I decided to get this style popover in the lighter blue, it’s super comfy, although definitely a splurge at $49 for a sweatshirt.

Overall, I’m happy with my purchases, however I wish that the sale was earlier than September.  I also felt like there was a lot of items from last year as opposed to this year, and I found myself uninterested in many of the items offered in the After Party Sale.

I did like that they didn’t keep adding items throughout the 3 days, as I would always find myself going on and spending more money on things I probably didn’t need.

I would love to hear other thoughts on the Lilly After Party Sale this year, so comment below if you agree or disagree with me or if you have other thoughts entirely!

Spray tan at Sugared + Bronzed

I posted ages ago on Instagram that I was getting a spray tan at Sugared + Bronzed. I discovered you have to make an appointment a little bit further in advance, and couldn’t get an appointment to try the sugaring hair removal.

However, I was able to get my first ever spray tan! I was so nervous to get a spray tan, because of the typical concerns: It might look unnatural/orange, what if it streaks. I also was just concerned it might look uncharacteristic, as I am VERY pale.

All of my concerns were washed away after I went to Sugared + Bronzed in Union Square. I opted for the regular tan, where you don’t sweat or shower for at least 8 hours after. I’ve never tried the express tan, although this might be great if you have limited time on your hands.

Jade, my spray tan artist, made me feel so comfortable and gave me some great tips for keeping my tan lasting. She told me that moisturizer was the key to a long lasting tan. I workout and shower very often, and the tan lasted over a week with moisturizer slathered on post-shower. It wasn’t as tan on day 4 or 5, but you could still tell I was definitely tanner than my usual self.

I felt like there was some kind of stigma around spray/fake tans. While tanning beds are not good for you, spray tans are harmless and make you look great. My confidence was up from just looking tan. I didn’t look too tan, I didn’t look orange, I just looked and felt awesome.

Sugared + Bronzed also has a new client special:  if you buy one service, you get a second one for free! I can’t wait to use my next tan for a special occasion, or even just for fun.

Cult Gaia Ark Bag Duplicate!!

If there’s one thing that many bloggers love, it’s the “Ark” bag from cult gaia. These bags are so cute and add a cool, beachy vibe to any outfit.

When I saw the price of Mackenzie Horan’s pearl acrylic cult gaia bag I gasped. I felt like an adult that says “you paid for clothes with holes in them?” In reference to ripped jeans. But nearly $300 for a bag that literally has holes in it? That is far too much.

After searching the internet for a good duplicate at a much lower price, I settled on this exact look-a-like bag from Amazon. You can’t even tell the difference, especially from a far! The bag I purchased came with a dust bag, as well as a little “silk” tie to add some flair, which was a really nice surprise.

I would definitely recommend checking out Amazon for less expensive options!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone! My family celebrated at home today for the first time in years. It was nice to have a delicious homemade meal, company, and another beautiful day.

My mom made 2 different quiches and cinnamon buns to start the day! I had them as more of a breakfast portion to our “brunch.” The first was spinach, asparagus & goat cheese and the second was a cheddar, mushroom & red pepper quiche.

I ran to Seven Stars Bakery to grab iced tea for my sister and I, in addition to a hot cross bun for my grandmother! Yesterday, my mom and I made some Easter-themed Rice Krispy treats, and today we decided to give them jelly bean eyes. We used the special “Spring” version of the Rice Krispies cereal and added some neon pink food coloring to give them even more of a fun spring feeling.

The cooking and cleaning continued, as well as getting ready for our guests to arrive.

After many outfit deliberations, I decided to wear a new pair of Lilly Palazzo Pants I got from the After Party Sale this past summer, along with my favorite sweater from Wooden Ships and J.Crew Espadrille Wedges.

Overall, a successful day with the family. One more day at home before I head back to NYC. Snow is in the forecast for tomorrow, hopefully that’s an April Fools joke. Hope everyone had an amazing Easter weekend!

The Sun Finally Came Out!

A few weeks ago, it seemed as if winter was NEVER going to end. Yesterday in NYC it was a mild day but rainy and not very sunny. I headed home after work to Rhode Island for Easter, and hoped that the weather would be sunny and warm.

I got just what I asked for, and today was a perfect sunny day! Not the warmest day but it was nice to sit outside in lululemon cropped leggings and a Patagonia pullover.

Today included some hanging out in the backyard, enjoying the nice weather and preparing for Easter at our house tomorrow. After shopping, baking, cooking and cleaning, all that is left is to pick out an outfit for tomorrow. Let’s hope the weather stays warm and sunny, because I’m breaking out the Lilly!

Anyway, here are the details for today’s outfit:

Sunglasses: Customized Ray-Ban Aviators

Pullover: Patagonia Re-Tool Snap-T

Necklace: Marlyn Schiff Silver Wishbone
