2019 goals

Happy February! I have had this post saved in my drafts for quite some time and I figured today was the day to publish it. My 2019 goals are very similar to my 2018 goals. As a matter of fact, I looked at my list of 2018 goals and thought, “all of these things still apply to 2019.” Maybe my goals were very general, but they are all things I need to constantly be working on in my life.

My goals are mostly health and fitness related, however there are some that I need to help me push myself every once in a while.

Moisturize often

Especially in the winter, moisturizing is necessary for the skin. Cold weather, winds, and even just the change of the seasons and cause dry skin. I’m always looking for new moisturizers to try out, whether it be for my body, hands, or face! I’ve recently been using the mersea x Anthropologie collection coconut sugar body whip, and for my face I just started using the Renee Rouleau skin recovery lotion.

Eat more colorful foods

We are all guilty of loving beige/white/brown foods. I do love fruits and veggies, however sometimes they require more prep and time then just boiling some pasta. My goal is to eat a variety of (naturally) colorful foods this year!

Get in good shape

I played sports in high school during every season, so “being in shape” was really always the case when you worked out at least 5 days a week. In college I still play sports and worked out, but definitely not 5 days a week! I’m trying to feel good about working out, because it just makes it easier and less dreadful.

Try new workout classes

I’ve found that I like to attend workout classes, as I like a structured workout that I didn’t plan myself. I also like a little friendly competition with other people in class! It’s not a contest, but it’s good to push yourself a bit.

Spend time with friends + family

Not living at home, it’s hard to spend time with my family as much as I would like. My sister is in college in South Carolina now as well so I don’t get to see her too often anymore. We’re all going to Florida next weekend, I can’t wait to spend some time with my whole family! In terms of friends, I don’t see my college friends as much as I used too, so I want to plan some meet ups for all of us to reunite.

Try to limit stress and anxiety

This is like doing the impossible, but it’s okay to take a minute to breathe or relax if you need it.

Try new recipes

Max and I (mostly me) started a food Instagram towards the end of 2018 called madmaxfood. We love to eat together, and try fun recipes we see online. He’s a great cook, and I’m the designated baker, so recipes are one of our favorite things to try together!

Travel somewhere new

Last year this was on my list, and I ended up going to Chicago. Chicago was great, definitely one of my new favorite cities and I can’t wait to visit again. I have a ton of places on my list, especially in the US! Nashville, New Orleans, Seattle, and St. Louis are just some of the places on my list…

Spray tan at Sugared + Bronzed

I posted ages ago on Instagram that I was getting a spray tan atย Sugared + Bronzed. I discovered you have to make an appointment a little bit further in advance, and couldn’t get an appointment to try the sugaring hair removal.

However, I was able to get my first ever spray tan! I was so nervous to get a spray tan, because of the typical concerns: It might look unnatural/orange, what if it streaks. I also was just concerned it might look uncharacteristic, as I am VERY pale.

All of my concerns were washed away after I went to Sugared + Bronzed in Union Square. I opted for the regular tan, where you don’t sweat or shower for at least 8 hours after. I’ve never tried the express tan, although this might be great if you have limited time on your hands.

Jade, my spray tan artist, made me feel so comfortable and gave me some great tips for keeping my tan lasting. She told me that moisturizer was the key to a long lasting tan. I workout and shower very often, and the tan lasted over a week with moisturizer slathered on post-shower. It wasn’t as tan on day 4 or 5, but you could still tell I was definitely tanner than my usual self.

I felt like there was some kind of stigma around spray/fake tans. While tanning beds are not good for you, spray tans are harmless and make you look great. My confidence was up from just looking tan. I didn’t look too tan, I didn’t look orange, I just looked and felt awesome.

MVYD Soul Cycle

SoulCycle is the cult spinning studio sweeping the nation. I first saw a SoulCycle in Los Angeles in 2013, then heard about the studios gaining popularity in New York City. Spinning became more and more popular, and while I was at Fairfield U, a location popped up in nearby Westport, Connecticut.

Last year, SoulCycle decided to have one of their “Destination Soul” pop-up’s on the Vineyard in Edgartown. The bright yellow room with fun lights and designs at Evolve Pilates certainly drew you right in. I took a few classes and it was a lot of fun.

Soul MVYD is returning this summer, starting tomorrow, July 3rd! There are some great instructors teaching classes this week– I’ve already signed up for Trammell’s class on Thursday, he has great music.

If you’re in the area, I definitely recommend the splurge on a class or at least stop in to see the fun designs, pick up some MVYD merch and maybe get some free swag from Fiji Water!
