Game of Thrones Premiere & Cheese Board Debut

Who watched the GOT season 8 premiere Sunday night?! I was so excited for it, and the episode didn’t disappoint. I watched the season 7 finale right before, and I forgot just how action packed it was. Watching that made me so pumped for season 8. I can’t wait to find out who ends up on the iron throne, but I’m sad that some of my favorite characters could face death! ):

Anyway, I had a few friends over for the premiere, so naturally as an entertainer and someone who just purchased a new cheese board, I had to make up a cheese plate for the watch party.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I picked up this marble cheese board with a golden pineapple detail about a week ago. The board came in the mail and I immediately felt the need to buy a bunch of cheese and invite people over, then I realized that the GOT premiere was the perfect time to break out both!

I picked up most of the items from good ole Trader Joe’s (there is one right around the corner from my office, and it’s never too packed, truly a blessing). I got some Cotswolds cheese, double cream gouda, herbed goat cheese, and Dubliner cheddar. For fun other cheese plate items, I used truffle marcona almonds, bread and butter pickles, pita crisps, cornbread crackers (all from Trader Joe’s), shelled pistachios, and some cucumber and orange pepper cut up.

It was all very delicious and extremely filling! I would definitely recommend getting and making a cheese plate for entertaining, as it was the highlight of the night (other than the episode, obviously).

Happy eating! xx

5 Products I’ve Been Loving Recently

1. Kopari Coconut Deodorant

This product is my NEW FAVORITE thing. After hearing about this aluminum-free deodorant, I saw it at the airport on my way to Florida and I decided to give it a try!

To be honest, I haven’t used women’s deodorant since high school. I really didn’t like it, and I felt like it didn’t actually work, so I started using Old Spice Pure Sport deodorant all the time. No one notice that I smelled like a boy, and I also didn’t smell like weird flowers and have white, crumbly armpits (ew).

Kopari is the perfect deodorant. It smells great, it works really well, it doesn’t feel heavy, and it goes on clear! Plus it is free of harmful ingredients, so it’s a win-win.

2. Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater

I’ve used a few Mario Badescu products in the past, such as the Drying Lotion and the Cucumber Tonic Mask, but this is one of my new favorite products! Amazing on a hot day for a little refresh, and a great afternoon pick-me-up. I use it in the morning before I jade role, and sometimes after I shower, just because! The smell is so calming, and it’s good for sensitive skin.

3. The Oaui Leave in Conditioner

I got this in my FabFitFun box, and I have been loving it! I usually shower at night, and a little of this helps keep my hair tame and less frizzy after sleeping on it. I have lightly wavy hair, and I spray some of this on and comb through with my fingers. I don’t lose the waves, except I do lose the frizz, which is a plus!

4. St. Tropez Express Bronzing Mousse

St. Tropez is the easiest self tanner that actually works well. It’s pretty fool proof and will give you a nice glow, fast. Personally, I think the self-tanning mitt is the key, along with watching this video from St. Tropez!

5. Vital Proteins Collagen Creamer

Collagen is great for the skin, and you don’t get it from other foods (other than bone broth), so this supplement is one of my favorites! I’ve been having the vanilla flavor

I also have the Strawberry Lemon Beauty Collagen from Vital Proteins as well, which tastes great in smoothies, water, and even mixed into cranberry juice (a recent and delicious discovery).

The best cold fix recipe: “Health Tea”

Last week I went out to a vendor lunch for work at Westville Hudson. There are a few Westville locations in NYC (one very close to my apartment!), and I had never actually been. I knew they had seasonal vegetables, and other random things like french fries and hot dogs. However, I didn’t realize that the restaurant was a perfect mix of healthy and indulgent! I loved that they have so many different seasonal veggies options, as well as packed salads and sandwiches.

In addition to the smoky mac and cheese, my favorite item was a drink special called “Health Tea.” I made sure I took a picture of all the ingredients so I could re-create this recipe at home!

Recipe:

A few sprigs of mint, to taste

A few sage leaves, to taste

2 orange slices

2 lemon slices

A large piece of fresh ginger

1 Cinnamon stick, or a dash of ground cinnamon

Hot water

Honey, to taste

I made this at home this morning in my ban.do to-go coffee mug, and my trusty Chef’s Choice electric kettle. I added the mint, sage, ginger, orange slices, lemon slices and cinnamon. I then poured hot water over the other ingredients to steep. I then added some honey to sweeten it up a bit!

I’ve been refilling my mug all morning with more hot water, I love this alternative to lemon water or tea! A great way to switch it up.

2019 goals

Happy February! I have had this post saved in my drafts for quite some time and I figured today was the day to publish it. My 2019 goals are very similar to my 2018 goals. As a matter of fact, I looked at my list of 2018 goals and thought, “all of these things still apply to 2019.” Maybe my goals were very general, but they are all things I need to constantly be working on in my life.

My goals are mostly health and fitness related, however there are some that I need to help me push myself every once in a while.

Moisturize often

Especially in the winter, moisturizing is necessary for the skin. Cold weather, winds, and even just the change of the seasons and cause dry skin. I’m always looking for new moisturizers to try out, whether it be for my body, hands, or face! I’ve recently been using the mersea x Anthropologie collection coconut sugar body whip, and for my face I just started using the Renee Rouleau skin recovery lotion.

Eat more colorful foods

We are all guilty of loving beige/white/brown foods. I do love fruits and veggies, however sometimes they require more prep and time then just boiling some pasta. My goal is to eat a variety of (naturally) colorful foods this year!

Get in good shape

I played sports in high school during every season, so “being in shape” was really always the case when you worked out at least 5 days a week. In college I still play sports and worked out, but definitely not 5 days a week! I’m trying to feel good about working out, because it just makes it easier and less dreadful.

Try new workout classes

I’ve found that I like to attend workout classes, as I like a structured workout that I didn’t plan myself. I also like a little friendly competition with other people in class! It’s not a contest, but it’s good to push yourself a bit.

Spend time with friends + family

Not living at home, it’s hard to spend time with my family as much as I would like. My sister is in college in South Carolina now as well so I don’t get to see her too often anymore. We’re all going to Florida next weekend, I can’t wait to spend some time with my whole family! In terms of friends, I don’t see my college friends as much as I used too, so I want to plan some meet ups for all of us to reunite.

Try to limit stress and anxiety

This is like doing the impossible, but it’s okay to take a minute to breathe or relax if you need it.

Try new recipes

Max and I (mostly me) started a food Instagram towards the end of 2018 called madmaxfood. We love to eat together, and try fun recipes we see online. He’s a great cook, and I’m the designated baker, so recipes are one of our favorite things to try together!

Travel somewhere new

Last year this was on my list, and I ended up going to Chicago. Chicago was great, definitely one of my new favorite cities and I can’t wait to visit again. I have a ton of places on my list, especially in the US! Nashville, New Orleans, Seattle, and St. Louis are just some of the places on my list…

Here’s to 2019!

Quick Super Bowl appetizer: The best buffalo chicken dip recipe

I was born on Super Bowl Sunday 24 years ago! As a Super Bowl baby, I am always amped up for the day (especially when the Patriots are playing).

As a self-proclaimed foodie, I love all the fun recipes that come with the day, as many of them are foods you would never eat otherwise. Many of them are ridiculous, over-the-top foods that also require a lot of prep and cook time. This buffalo chicken dip is a quick, simple recipe that is equal parts easy and delicious!

Truth be told, I usually slightly follow Frank’s Red Hot Recipe for temperature and measurements, but I tend to add my own flair too it.

The Recipe:

2 cups of shredded, cooked chicken. I use the meat of 1 rotisserie chicken, I usually cut the breasts with a knife and measure it out to 2 cups.

8 oz of cream cheese. I usually use low fat cream cheese, and I let it soften up a bit first.

1/2 cup of Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Wing Sauce. This is KEY. The regular hot sauce also works, however I love to use the buffalo wing sauce from Frank’s, it’s the best.

1/2 cup ranch dressing. I repeat, ranch, not bleu cheese.

1/2 cup of your preferred shredded cheese. Frank’s calls for bleu cheese crumbles, but I personally prefer shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. I mix 1/2 cup in with the cream cheese, buffalo sauce, ranch, chicken mixture, as well as some for melting on top.

Scallions (for garnish).

Pre-heat oven to 350° F, place mixture in a shallow baking dish of choice. Bake for 20 mins. Serve with pretzel/pita/tortilla, bread, veggies, or really whatever you prefer!

Frank’s recipe recommends to mix up the dip after it is warmed, however I think it is best with the meaty cheese top and fresh scallion garnish!

Happy Super Bowl and GO PATS!!

Reese Witherspoon’s cornbread chili pie

I’ve been dying to get Reese Witherspoon’s “Whiskey in a Teacup” book, but just haven’t quite gotten around to it.

Delish posted a recipe from Reese’s book on Instagram yesterday, and I sent it to my mom knowing we had to make it for Sunday.

Cornbread. chili. pie.

We decided to switch out the ground pork and ground beef mixture with ground turkey instead. The recipe came out SO delicious and it can all be made in one skillet.

It was like a meaty chili with a perfectly moist cornbread, topped with sour cream, cheese, and scallions, which Reese suggested. She also wrote that adding salsa is a good option, however we opted for some avocado instead.

I would give this a 10/10, as the cornbread was amazing and the chili had great flavor. Would have also been good with beef/pork as well.

My Favorite Places to Grab a Breakfast Sandwich & Coffee in Edgartown

Just a few days until the Fourth and I am so excited to head out to the Vineyard for a nice mini vacation. I can’t wait to relax at the pool, hit the beach, enjoy the outdoor shower, a workout class and shop or eat downtown with my family!

While there are so many fun activities to be done, I love to start the day with a breakfast sandwich and a coffee on-the-go from downtown Edgartown. Usually I will eat at home, but I love to bike downtown or take a quick ride with my family in the morning when town is less crowded. Over the years, I’ve definitely had my fair share of breakfast sandwiches in Edgartown, so without further ado, here are my favorite places in no particular order:

Rosewater Market & Take Away

Rosewater Market’s breakfast sandwich is delicious the most customizable of the list — you can pick from several different options to create your ideal breakfast sandwich for a fixed price. I always order the biscuit with a fried egg, goat cheese, avocado and greens! They also have many different coffee and pastry options, as well as regular sandwiches and other provisions!

Espresso Love

Espresso Love has different types of bagels with options of eggs or cream cheese. My top two from the menu would be The Islander (your choice of bagel, veggie cream cheese, bacon, cucumber) or the Church Street (your choice of bagel, egg, cheddar, avocado, lettuce, tomato.) The Vienna Latte is life changing and I would highly recommend it. Espresso love also has a lovely outdoor seating area in the shade!

Toccopuro Coffee

Toccopuro has amazing coffees and teas. The iced mocha love is my personal favorite. Toccopuro also makes a decent breakfast sandwich which you can ask for on an english muffin or one of their croissants. If you’re more about the coffee and pastries, I would definitely stop by this Edgartown staple.

Murdick’s Cafe

Murdick’s has a cafe? You guessed it. The cafe is adjacent to Murdick’s Fudge and Island Company. They make a great, classic bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel. Plain and simple is key. I’m honestly not sure about the coffee situation, but I’m sure they have it! Stop by next door to watch the fudge being made and smell the warm chocolate.

Edgartown Meat & Fish Market

The Meat & Fish Market may not be your first thought for a morning breakfast and coffee run. They do serve Starbucks, but they also make bagel sandwiches in the morning. I love the salt bagel when I am feeling something extra savory, and you can’t go wrong with Starbucks coffee or tea.

Katama General Store

Living right off Katama Road, I’m partial to the Katama Store! They just redid the whole store last summer, and they have very simple breakfast sandwiches and delicious, warm scones in the morning. The coffee there is also simple but decent, hot or iced! Pick up breakfast, coffee and many other provisions here on your way to South Beach.

Hopefully this guide is helpful for those searching for a breakfast on-the-go in Edgartown this summer. Let me know if I missed any great, grab-and-go breakfast sandwiches in the comments!
